Congressman Manny Pacquiao

>> Thursday, May 20, 2010

Manny Pacquiao is in serious preparation to his newest challenge - the House of Representative.

In a TV interview, Congressman-elect Manny Pacquiao's preparation includes learning the protocols of Congress and studying public administration in the University of Philippines. He revealed that his priority is the creation of a university in his congressional district.

It is welcome news that he is not concerned about the position itself but in accomplishing something. I am hoping that he won't succumb to the system of politics.

I am one of those not in favor of him running for government office. But if he will make a real difference in serving as a congressman, then I would not mind being wrong and eating my words.

Coach Vergel Meneses

>> Thursday, May 13, 2010

I was lazily reading about sports news when a familiar name caught my eye - Vergel Meneses. My eyes tell that one of my favorite local basketball players is now the coach of his college alma mater basketball varsity team - the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers.

Called the Aerial Voyager, Meneses led Sunkist to a near grandslam I think in 1995 and winning that year's MVP award.

His aerial moves endeared him to fans like me. He was a gifted offensive player and makes scoring look easy.

He gained more fans when he was traded (or just signed there, I'm not sure) to Ginebra. As far as I can remember, he reached the finals once as a Gin King.

I was not following the PBA religiously like before that I never knew when he retired.

Now, I have more reason to watch NCAA basketball.

Where's Ricky Rubio?

Ricky Rubio, the Spanish basketball phenom the world came to know during the 2008 Olympics, probably made the right decision to defer his move to the NBA. He has been part of team FC Barcelona and helped them win the Euroleague Basketball Championships.

If he really did postponed his NBA dreams to prepare himself more, then he is getting a good preparation indeed by competing for championships in Europe.

Chuck Liddell Back in UFC 115

>> Monday, April 26, 2010

Chuck, the Iceman, Liddell will be stepping back inside the martial arts octagon at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UF) 115 on June 12, 2010 at General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Regarded as one of the premiere ambassadors of mixed martial arts, Liddell appeared to be on his way to retirement. Instead, he will be headlining UFC 115, facing Rich Franklin in a light heavyweight main card bout.

Liddell's legendary name in UFC can be acknowledged as the main reason that tickets for the event have been sold out within 30 minutes, breaking the record previously held by UFC 83.

Chuck Liddell even visited our country to promote the sport some years back. Even my housemate Ordz has caught up with sport.

Lorena Ochoa walk aways from Golf

>> Wednesday, April 21, 2010

In a surprising decision, still no.1 ranked female golfer in the LPGA tour, Lorena Ochoa is about to retire from Golf.

She may be considered Tiger Woods of Mexico in terms of being successful in golf even at a young age. From state and national events in Mexico, to collegiate triumps as a University of Arizona golf scholar and finally to the LPGA tour and major championships, Ochoa put Mexico on the golfing map. She has become the most famous non-football athlete in Mexico.

As a professional, she has 27 tour wins with 2 major championship. Aside from her accomplishment on the golf course, she is also known for her gracious treatment of golf workers especially Mexicans.

She got married last December and reports are saying that she wants to leave golf to raise a family even if she's only 28 and still in competitive form.

I just hope she thought hard on this decision. It would be sad if she is foregoing her best years in golf now only to come back later when her golfing skills might have declined considerably.
